FIRST stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology

FIRST's vision is to promote STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) studies. FIRST aims to help train the world's youth to solve problems and learn about technology. FIRST does so through several robotics competitions including FRC (First Robotics Competition), FLL (First Lego League), FTC (First Tech Challenge), and Jr.FLL (Junior First Lego League).
